  2. Doug, you don’t know how flattering your comment is. I returned to painting, or at least sketching, because I saw the netsite of Russ Stuttler at http://www.stutler.cc/other/sketchbook/sketchbook.html. He’s an American who has lived in Japan for decades, much influenced by Hokusai. While I don’t emulate Russ, never mind Hokusai, I found his enthusiasm infectious. Standing up for a while with a paintbrush in your hand is very relaxing!

      By the way, I used to live in Japan as well. Went to high school there. That’s why your painting reminded me of Japanese art.

      • Aha! That explains much about your visual and other sensibilities, as displayed for instance in your photographs. It’s amazing what we can tell about people just by their works.
